Abstract Pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics pose an increasing danger to the treatment of infections. A case in point are biofilms as bacterial communities which are resistant to classic antibiotics. Quorum sensing plays an important role in the biofilm formation. This process can be inhibited by essential oils.
