Aims: Chronic alcohol intake may promote liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Synergistic effects of insulin resistance and alcohol on cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) induction, fibrogenesis and hepatocarcinogenesis are implicated.
