Background: Thymidylate synthase enzyme is essential for DNA repair and biosynthesis and it is involved in cell proliferation as well. A 28bp variable tandem repeat (VNTR) a G/C single nucleotid polimorphism at the 5'UTR and a deletion of 6bp at the 3'UTR were described.
