The incidence of metabolic syndrome in patients with non-CF bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Background: Bronchiectases and COPD are inflammatory airway diseases that have some clinical similarities and differences. The 2011 “GOLD” update lists the comorbidities that every COPD patient should be evaluated for: cardiovascular diseases, skeletal muscle dysfunction, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, depression and lung cancer.
