Background and aims: the expression of HER-2 receptor is strongly assocciated with more aggressive clinical course and worse prognosis in gastric carcinogenesis. In advanced gastric cancer, pilot studies showed promising results with the anti-HER-2 drug, trastuzumab. We evaluated the incidence of HER-2 receptor positivity in gastric cancer in our material of patients having gone through upper g.i. endoscopy (UGIE) over a one-year period in order to select potential candidates for anti-HER-2 therapy.
