Zusammenfassung
Introduction: The surfactant protein B (SP-B) is thought to be the most important protein for respiratory physiology as its lack or deficiency is associated with lethal respiratory failure. SP-B is normally detectable in the systemic circulation at very low levels. Increased levels of SP-B have been reported in several respiratory diseases due to leakage of surfactant into the circulation. This feasibility study was conducted to investigate whether proSP-B and C-fragment pro SP-B (C-proSP-B) might serve as serum biomarkers to differentiate between DPLD and obstructive lung diseases.
