False negativity of brush cytology and biopsy from Wirsung's and biliary ducts

Aim: Endoscopic intraductal biopsy and brush cytology arc routine methods for diagnosis of strictures encountered during ERCP. The disadvantage of these methods is their modest sensitivity due to the relatively high occurrence of false negative results in malignant cases. The aim of this work is to present the preoperative diagnostic efficacy and analyse the false negativity in the period of two years from 1999 to 2000.
