Heart rate variability in diabetic patients

Purpose Heart rate variability (HRV), i.e, the fluctuations of the heart rate through the average heart rate, is a useful tool to study the autonomic nervous system function and yields important information about the balance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems. Abnormalities of HRV have been described in several groups of patients, mainly those with cardiovascular and neurological diseases, and in diabetes mellitus.
