Multidetector CT has become the imaging modality of choice for assessing the airways. High resolution volumetric data sets of the entire chest are obtained from a single inspiratory breath hold. As a result, multiplanar reformations of very high quality are provided. The trachea or every bronchus may be imaged in a plane which includes its origin and distal divisions. The airway may also be assessed on successive cross sections of walls and lumens strictly perpendicular to airway long axis.
