Side effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) on bone remodelling

Background: Patients with CML on TKI treatment may show altered bone metabolism. We investigated the influence of the TKIs imatinib (IMA), Dasatinib (DASA), and Bosutinib (BOSU) on the growing skeleton in juvenile rats. Methods: 4 weeks-old rats were chronically exposed to TKIs over a 10 week period. At fixed time points animals were sacrificed to analyze the following parameters: bone length, bone mineral density (BMD), and endocrinological parameters.
