Sonography – a method for early cancer detection of ovarian cancer?

Purpose: The prognosis of ovarian cancer depends on the extent of disease at diagnosis. The reduction of mortality requires the diagnosis in an early stage. In recent ultrasound screening studies, only a moderate stage shift could be achieved. The occurrence of advanced disease with a normal size of the ovaries could be one reason for this phenomenon.
