Zusammenfassung

Stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are a major cause of disability and handicap in the indu-strialized world. Stroke patients are the largest group (currently 750 000 individuals/year affected in the United States, 250 000 individuals/ year in Germany) the prevalence being 200-300 patients/100 000 inhabitants (Williams et al, 1999).
