The value of sonography in diagnosis of thyroid cancer in occasionally detected nodules

The purpose of this paper is to show the value of sonography in detecting thyroid carcinoma in patients without history of thyroid disease. Patients and methods: Sonography of thyroid gland was performed in 5600 patients without a history of thyroid diseases as a screening test. 404 patients with pathologic finding in thyroid gland were followed to fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Patients with cytologically revealed malignancy underwent surgery.
