Zusammenfassung

Abstract Fungi and acanthamoeba represent potential vision threatening causes of infectious corneal inflammation (microbial keratitis). Early and correct diagnosis of the disease is often difficult due to a lack of specific initial clinical findings. Especially acanthamoeba can easily be misdiagnosed for herpetic keratitis. Therefore, ophthalmologists need to be aware of relevant clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic characteristics of fungal and acanthamoeba keratitis which will be described and discussed in the present review.
