The presented study provides an overview about fingertip injuries and the use of “artificial dermis” for wound coverage. In specialized centers fingertip injuries are extremely common, independent of the patient´s age and sex. In the real world probably a considerable number of unreported cases are not referred to a hand surgeon, because such injuries are often misjudged as a minor trauma. Due to this fact, an easy to learn and widely available surgical treatment would be useful.
