On January 4, 2011, President Öbama signed the United States Eood and Drug Administration (EDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law. 1 This groundbreaking piece of legislation, which was issued in response to an ever increasing number of high-profile food safety ineidents, is aimed at improving FDAs ability to prevent, detect, and respond to food safety problems and foodbornc illness outbreaks.
