Introduction The elderly are prone to energy-protein malnutrition and its associated complications, such as increased mortality and morbidity, poorer quality of life, delayed recovery from disease and development of frailty.1, 2 Besides, the elderly have greater protein and leucine requirements.3, 4 Protein-rich oral nutritional supplements (ONS) enriched with leucine designed to meet these elevated requirements can be used to address malnutrition and additionally stimulate muscle growth.
