Zusammenfassung

Background and objective: Insulin resistance is a common consequence of obesity. Increase in body fat mass is regularly associated with chronic low-grade inflammation, which is suspected to form the basis for insulin resistance. Secretion of adipokines from fat cells is involved and maintains this chronic pro-inflammatory condition. Therefore, fat cells could have a direct impact on the development of skeletal muscle insulin resistance.
