The clinical evidence for routine post-operative nutritional support is controversial. A meta-analysis (Lewis et al, 2001) suggested that enteral nutrition may reduce the incidence of post-operative complications. However, it was concluded that an adequately powered RCT be conducted. Methods: All patients admitted for upper GI and hepatobiliary surgery across South Wales are eligible to enter the trial.
