Aim of the study: Serum transthyretin is an traditional and ideal biomarker for malnutrition and additionally it reflects the metabolic consequences of acute stress injury. The protein has a short half-life, it measures the level of metabolic deficit, the response to nutritional metabolic support, and it is a prognostic indicator. A truncated form of TTR has recently been described to be part in a set of biomarkers for the diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
