Introduction: Hyperglycemia and insulin resistance is common in postoperative and critically ill patients, and increases the risk of death and adverse outcome. Keeping glucose levels from rising much higher than the upper normal range has shown to improve outcome in a postoperative setting. The perioperative impact of variations in glucose levels remains to bee seen.
