Aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of intestinal resection on parameters of postabsorbtive and postprandial intermediary metabolism and to define factors responsible for muscle protein anabolic response to standardized enteral formula. Patients and methods: A total of 22 patients (male 14, females 8, mean age 57 years) were included into the study. The study group consisted of 12 patients after intestinal resections; 5 of them have been treated with parenteral nutrition (TPN), another 7 patients have been weaned from TPN.
