Zusammenfassung

Introduction: Fish oil (FO) has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and in vivo. Aortic surgery constitutes a pure model of ischemia-reperfusion, with its consecutive inflammatory response. We hypothesized that early postoperative IV FO supplementation might reduce the inflammatory and metabolic response. The study aimed at testing the safety and the clinical impact of a TPN mixture containing FO after elective abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery.
