Zusammenfassung

It is widely accepted that the metabolic response to injury of critically ill adults is characterized by a hypermetabolic (Plank1, 1998) and a catabolic state. Hypermetabolic state has been correlated with the circulatory levels of inflammatory marker as C-Reactive protein. Recent reports demonstrate mainly in newborn and infants a different metabolic response to acute illness (Jones2, 1993; Powis3, 1998) compared to adults.
