Vaccination is without doubt one of the most outstanding health inventions, saving millions of lives every year, and sparing children and adults from painful disease and absence from education and work [1]. It is also one of the success stories of health systems in the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region, whose 53 Member States in 2018 celebrated record high coverage for the second dose of measles vaccine of 91% and 94% for the third dose of diphtheria–tetanus–pertussis vaccine [2].
