With the increased life expectancy in the German population, the proportion of deaths from leading causes such as cancer, coronary heart diseases and stroke will further increase [1, 2]. Numerous risk factors for the major disease-related causes of death are already known and have been characterized including smoking, alcohol, physical activity and nutrition.
