Collection of biosamples has become an increasingly frequent feature of prospective population-based studies worldwide, including the German National Cohort (GNC). Stool samples could potentially be used for studies regarding early detection of gastrointestinal neoplasms, nutritional and metabolic parameters, and gastrointestinal microflora and pathogens.
