Zusammenfassung

Acute respiratory (ARI) and gastrointestinal infections (GII) have an important share of the overall burden of disease [1]. However, the acute onset, relative harmlessness and short duration of the majority of symptomatic episodes, nearly always leading to restitutio ad integrum, make it difficult for most people to remember symptoms, number and intensity of episodes during a certain time period. Assessments of the magnitude and intensity of ARI and GII are thus often flawed by recall biasFootnote 1 and difficult to examine in long-term cohort studies.
