BackgroundDemographic change and its impact on the shortage of skilled nurses represent a significant societal challenge. The Nursing Report 2030 by the Bertelsmann Foundation predicts that by 2030, the number of people in need of care will increase by 50%, while the number of nursing staff is simultaneously decreasing. A shortage of almost 500,000 full-time nurses is expected if current developments continue (Rothgang et al. 2024).A growing proportion of nursing staff is already over 50 years old, and many older nurses are retiring or leaving the profession due to the high physical and psychological workloads.…
