BackgroundIn December 2019 several cases of pneumonia of unknown origin were reported in Wuhan, China, leading to the identification of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Since then, more than 80 million people have been infected by SARS-CoV‑2 and up to 1.8 million people have died [1]. It became clear early in the pandemic that older adults and particularly the oldest-old have the highest mortality risk.
