Background and aimsA crucial factor for independent living is the ability to maintain personal hygiene. In Western culture personal hygiene is one of the most sensitive and intimate subjects and is usually carried out in privacy. Relying on support from relatives or home care services is often accompanied by feelings of shame and helplessness [1, 9].
