Introduction Many health challenges facing the world today are considered preventable and treatable. Tackling these requires more than new technologies and medical discoveries such as insights into the behaviors and cultural contexts that produce them. The ways behavior influences health, and how cultural contexts affect behaviors, are often complex and intertwined. Classic behavioral science, rooted in psychology and behavioral economics, focuses on individual determinants of behavior such as perceptions, attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions.
