Einleitung Loneliness is considered one of the most important risk factors for depression. Socio-cognitive models of loneliness assume that loneliness is related to the risk of depression through cognitive biases in all stages of information processing. As a result, lonely people tend to engage in behaviours that elicit negative responses in others that confirm and reinforce these cognitive biases, which are thought to set off a cascade of behavioural, affective, and biological processes that increase the risk of depression.
