Background Healthcare systems worldwide are facing various challenges, including a shortage of healthcare professionals and long waiting times, posing barriers to access, and affecting population health. In Austria, waiting times are highly debated, yet are not monitored. Despite the commendable achievements of the Austrian healthcare system, socioeconomic inequalities persist. Consequently, waiting times contribute to concerns about health equity in access to healthcare.
