Zusammenfassung

Background Reducing low-quality care and resource overuse is crucial for decreasing the healthcare sector' s carbon footprint. In Austria, pharmaceuticals account for 21% of healthcare greenhouse gas emissions. Overprescription of medicines has become a significant concern encompassing environmental, economic and public health consequences. Prescribing without clear evidence of benefit contributes to polypharmacy and adverse drug reactions, causing numerous deaths and hospitalizations annually in Europe.
