BackgroundThe commonest causes of cognitive impairment in the elderly are dementia, delirium or a combined presentation [1]. Admission to hospital for surgical treatment of hip fractures is likely to be associated with some form of cognitive impairment, which may be precipitant to the trauma or prolonging to the hospital stay and frequently interdependent.
