In order to improve functional ability as one of the main goals of the World Health Organization baseline report “Decade of healthy ageing” the diagnosis and treatment of sarcopenia play an important role [1]. Sarcopenia is defined as progressive and generalized loss of muscle mass with a simultaneous reduction in muscle strength and/or function [2].
