Heart failure (HF) is common in older people. The diagnosis of HF is difficult in older subjects, especially in settings without direct access to further diagnostics. This study examined the reliability of blood pressure response during a Valsalva maneuver as a bedside test in geriatric patients. In 89 geriatric rehabilitation patients, systolic blood pressure was measured during the maneuver and classified into sinusoidal, absent overshoot, or square pattern.
