„Der Husten geht einfach nicht weg!“

Subacute and chronic cough are frequently associated with a considerable burden of suffering and annoyance. We present a typical case of a middle-aged female patient with post-COVID-19 subacute cough. The definition and frequent causes of subacute and chronic cough and a structured guideline-based approach for diagnosis and management of different suspected underlying diagnoses (e.g., upper airway cough syndrome, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and cough associated with gastroesophageal reflux) are outlined. We also discuss therapeutic options for refractive cough.
