Aims: VOD remains one of the major causes of deaths and has a reported incidence in the pediatric population of 12 to >60%. In a retrospective pediatric study and a phase II randomized study of adults and pediatrics, Defibrotide (DF, Gentium) in the treatment of severe VOD was found to have complete response rates of 50% to 63%, with better outcomes noted in children and with earlier intervention.
