Zusammenfassung
Background: Evidence from both rodents and humans indicates central role for brain insulin delivery on regulation of peripheral glucose and lipid metabolism. In the present study, we investigated the acute effects of intranasal insulin on endogenous glucose production (EGP) and hepatic energy metabolism in humans. Methods: Ten lean normoglycemic humans (age 25.7 ± 1.6yrs, BMI 23.1 ± 0.9 kg/m2, CON) and 10 patients with type 2 diabetes (age 60.7 ± 1.8yrs, BMI 28.3 ± 1.2 kg/m2, T2D) received intranasal insulin (160 IU; Actrapid, Novo-Nordisk, Denmark) or placebo in a randomized, single-blinded, cross-over trail.
