Introduction: Patients with DM2 have a 2–4 times increased risk for cardiovascular disease compared with non-diabetic individuals. The etiology of atherosclerosis in these subjects includes classic and modern cardiovascular risk factors, including various gene mutations and polymorphisms. Aim of the present study is the estimation of the contribution of genetic factors in the onset of atherosclerosis in DM2 patients.
