Zusammenfassung

Aims: Apelin was recently identified as an adipokine, which is up-regulated in insulin resistant and obese states. Insulin was shown to stimulate apelin expression and secretion in adipocytes. We studied whether apelin mRNA expression in adipose tissue and serum concentrations are associated with parameters of obesity, fat distribution and insulin sensitivity. In addition, we investigated circulating in response to an intensive 4 weeks exercise training program.
