Evidence based management of isolated third trimester oligohydramnios

Isolated oligohydramnios is defined as reduced amniotic fluid index (AFI) of equal to or less than 5cm with no associated causes such as hypertension, diabetes, premature rupture of membranes, postdated pregnancy, congenital anomalies and intrauterine growth restriction. It poses a dilemma in obstetric practice, particularly if diagnosed before 37 weeks of gestation. The decision regarding expectant management vis-a-vis labour induction is difficult and so is the fetal surveillance.
