Aims: Hepatic organic anion transporters are decreased in states of inflammation such as endotoxinemia. Their down-regulation is attributed to TNFa and IL-1b effects (1,2) but cytokine-dependent regulatory mechanisms in vivo have not been evaluated to date. Aim: To investigate the effects of these cytokines on central regulators compared to mRNA expression of transporter target genes. Methods: Mice were injected i.p. with either cytokine (6µg TNFa, 1µg IL-1b) or saline alone and harvested after 4, 8 and 16h. Expression of transporters was determined by Northern blotting.
