Two subcongenic BB.4S strains – identical genetic characterization but different facets of metabolic syndrome

Aim: Congenic BB.4S (BB.SHR), with an exchanged region on chromosome 4, develop an incomplete metabolic syndrome with obesity, hyperleptinemia and dyslipidemia compared with the parental strain, the diabetes-prone BB/OK rat. To study single facets of the metabolic syndrome subcongenic BB.4S rats were generated and phenotypically characterized. In this study two subcongenic strains were analyzed for candidate genes of facets of the metabolic syndrome.
