Aims: Studies in man and pig have shown that GLP-1 (9–36) amide (GLP-1m) is a glucoregulatory peptide, but its insulinotropic actions are not yet fully investigated. We developed a simple test to differentiate the insulinotropic and glucoregulatory effects of incretins and characterized the incretin effects of GLP-1m in comparison to those of active GLP-1 (7–36) amide (GLP-1a) in more detail. Methods: Catheterized, conscious Wistar rats were injected with vehicle (V; 0.1% bovine serum albumin in saline), 4.0 nmol/kg GLP-1m, 4.0 nmol/kg GLP-1a and 4.0 nmol/kg GLP-1m+4.0 nmol/kg GLP-1a in paired experiments.
